Czorsztyn Lake & Pieniny Mountains
Visit beautiful Czorsztyn Lake and take a picturesque trail
through the Pieniny Mountains National Park
Takie this trip to visit one od the most beautiful sites in Poland. Czorsztyn Lake was created by the construction of a water dam on the Dunajec river in Niedzica. It is located between Gorce and Pieniny Mountains and thus has extremely picturesque surroundings including the ruins of Czorsztyn and Niedzica castles. Czorsztyn is also a starting point for the entry into the Pieniny National Park. Established (along with his counterpart PIENAP in Slovakia) in 1932 as the first national park in Poland and the first in Europe, the Pieniny National Park is popular mostly because of its nature and amazing views – jagged rocks and gorges, where almost vertical cliffs go down to the Dunajec River. The park boasts the most valuable ecosystems relicts – beech and sycamore forests and relict pine forests and even though the park is small in size, within its area thrive hundreds of species of plants and animals. There are many hiking trails in the park. Most famous peaks are Sokolica (747m) i Trzy Korony (982m), where one can cherish view on the Pieniny and the Tatra mountains as well as the Dunajec river. The park’s main attraction is a river trip on wooden rafts led by traditionally dressed Highlander men. At the feet of the mountains, there are towns with beautiful wooden villas. Most famous is Szczawnica, one of the oldest health resorts in Poland, which is famous not only for its mineral waters but also its charming Swiss-type archictecture.
